This month marks one-year since I quit my office job and launched my own business. It’s a time of reflection for me. I would be lying if I’ve said that it’s been an easy year, as it hasn’t, but I definitely don’t regret my decision and I love what I do now (even though it can be more stressful then my office job was lol). Ever since I first attended a group fitness class when I was teenager (well aerobics back then!) I wanted to have my own fitness business but I didn’t actually believe it would happen, Back then it was just a silly dream of a teenage girl.

When I look at what got me to where I am today I honestly don’t think I would have had the guts to do it if I didn’t experience pelvic floor dysfunction once I became a mother. This gave me real motivation and a reason WHY to get going – to educate other women so they can learn from my mistakes and my experience.

I feel like this happened to me for a reason; so I can help others. I feel so lucky that I can use my negative personal experience and turn it into something positive. And I feel really humble when other women with pelvic floor dysfunction tell me they find my story inspiring.

I’m know that what I do helps some women and can prevent others from pelvic floor dysfunction. At least 1/3 of “my” mums, who I refer to see a Women’s Health Physio come back with the early stages of prolapse or weak pelvic floor and are not ready for running yet. For many of them if I hadn’t had the opportunity to help to educate them they probably wouldn’t have gone and they wouldn’t be aware of the issue. They would possibly join the regular boot camps where everyone runs, skips and does crunches and no one talks about diastasis, pelvic floor and leaking and etc. That I can teach these women another way makes me feel truly thankful.

I’m really happy that I have been able to create a community of mums who support each other. It’s so exciting when one of our mums gets all clear from her physio to run and/or do more advanced exercises and everyone is also really excited for her too! Everyone always wants to know how each other is getting on and it can be challenging for me to keep the chatter under control! I feel so blessed and grateful that I can work with so many amazing women and that they trust me.

It’s been a big first year and I’m grateful for what I have learned and for all the amazing people I’ve met – my clients and other postnatal fitness professionals. And I can’t wait to learn more. And I’m very exited for what is coming to Mums Going Strong Fitness this year: indoor location and more sessions, Strong Mums sessions, online training and more.

I wanted to use this blog as an opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported me in this journey so far. Starting with my husband who puts up with my odd working hours and my mood swings during the stressful times; I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for helping me to follow my dreams. My Women’s Health Physio, who was really supportive from the start and shared so much knowledge with me. My Business Coach, who keeps me on track and who has created great community of likeminded business women who all support each other. To my friends whose support is amazing and who always remind me how far I’ve come. And to all my clients who trust me and show up to the sessions giving it all.
